If you picture a still, you probably picture this one: a copper pot, a thumper, and a coiled worm. This 6 gallon complete copper moonshine still gives a beginner the full traditional layout in a size you can handle on your first day.
What's in the box
The name says it: a complete 6 gallon copper still with a thumper and a worm. If you want the full parts list before you buy, look over the photos on this page or call us at 603-997-6786. We're a family shop in New Hampshire and we're glad to go through it.
What the thumper and worm actually do
This is where the chemistry gets fun. Vapor leaves the pot and bubbles through liquid in the thumper, which works like a second distillation pass within the same run. You can hear it thump. From there the vapor moves into the worm, a coiled condenser. Once it's cooled, the vapor turns back into liquid. Heat, vapor, condensation: you're running the experiment from start to finish.
How hard is it?
A thumper adds one more vessel to watch, and that's useful while you're learning. You start to see how each stage changes what comes out. Take it slow and keep your heat steady.
Your first steps
- Check every connection between the pot, thumper, and worm before heating.
- Do a water-only run to learn the flow and clean the copper.
- Set up in a safe, well-ventilated space.
- Keep notes on heat, temperature, and timing for each run.
Owning a still is legal in the US. Distilling alcohol requires a federal TTB permit, so follow federal, state, and local law.
