Not everyone wants to start with a torch and a pile of parts. If you'd rather open a complete copper distillation unit and start learning right away, this is the one to look at.
What's in the box
A complete, durable copper distillation unit. You don't have to build it from raw copper. Just pick the size that fits your space and your plans, from 1 gallon up to 100 gallons.
Picking a size
- Small: 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 gallons
- Medium: 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 gallons
- Large: 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, or 100 gallons
For a first still, smaller is easier to learn on. Small runs let you try something, see what happens, and adjust.
How hard is it?
This is the easy route. The hard part, building the unit, is already done. What's left is learning to run it: how much heat to use, how vapor moves through copper, and when to make your cuts. That's where you get to be an alchemist and a scientist at the same time.
First steps
- Choose your size and set up a safe, well-ventilated spot.
- Do your first run with water to learn how your unit heats up.
- Keep a notebook on your heat settings and timing.
- Call the shop at 603-997-6786 with any questions.
People use stills for water, essential oils, and, with a permit, fuel alcohol. Distilling alcohol requires federal TTB permits, so follow federal, state, and local law.
